how to convert a black and white tif image to colour


i want convert black , white tif image colour. opened in photoshop, changed mode rgb colour/8, saved psd, when use replace colour dialogue box, colour showing grey-scale. what’s correct way proceed?

in photoshop there more ways 1 achieve task , none of them need considered »wrong« long result fits intention, »the correct way« seems problematic terminology.

 

anyway, 1 can use layer set blend mode color , paint on whatever colors.

or 1 can use solid color layers set blend mode color.

or hue/saturation layers …

to edit contrast if necessary curves or levels adjustment layers can employed.
