Thread: Apache - no permission for writing file
hello,
i'm trying familiarize myself apache , general server administration. i've enoucntered 1 problem though.
i'm running debian , directadmin , of course apache2.
when create new user, home directory user:user. fine, apache can access files , display correctly. apache cannot write files, saying no permission.
if chown directory apache, server can write everything, @ same time if log in ssh user/pass, cannot files belong apache.
tried adding www-data , apache secondary groups user no avail. i'm pretty confused, directory , files owned user, @ same time apache able write/modify files in it.
possible?
sorry if question dumb, tried googling , checking on forums either couldn't find, doesn't or don't![]()
it's bad idea give apache write perm on files. compromise designate 1 subdir writeable files , make 1 have apache group write perms. limits can altered compromises script or gains control via apache.
typically own files rw perm, , give apache group (commonly called www-data) r perm except special directory can have w perms. has proven on years fucntional enough work me.
