Thread: Did I install this correctly? (on raid 0)

hi,

first off, disclaimer: know nothing @ ubuntu, , know little computers in general =(

i've been trying install ubuntu 11.04 on laptop, sony vaio z raid 0. evidently raid 0 poses sort of problem ubuntu.

did:

defragmented , shrank windows partition
downloaded , burned alternate install cd ubuntu
booted alternate install cd
selected 'recognize raid' ... or such thing when prompted during installation
selected along lines of 'install in largest contiguous free space' when asked install (my other choices seemed writing on entire disc, seems bad if want preserve windows 7)
asked install grub, , got confused. entered recovery shell (busybots?), checked contents of dev/mapper, , told grub install first directory found there, happened dev/mapper/isw_gfcbaifgj_volume0. chose pretty arbitrarily

i'm able boot either windows 7 or ubuntu... seems work ok far can tell. questions these:

1. did grossly incorrect in attempt dual boot ubuntu?
2. installing boot loader dev/mapper/isw_gfcbaifgj_volume0 bad idea? have catastrophically destroyed something?
3. when check hard drive partitions, have 2 new ones. neither of them named. expected see 1 new partition named 'ubuntu' ... or that. why there two, , why not have names?

again, apologies lack of computer savviest. @ appreciated.

it sounds can boot either windows or ubuntu. congratulations!

don't know enough comment on /dev/mapper/isw....

if run accessories/terminal , enter command:
fdisk -l
(that's letter l, not number) list partitions. perhaps there small swap partition. (windows uses swap file, linux uses swap partition.) it's quite normal linux paritions have no name other than, example, /dev/sda1
