Thread: Resolution stuck at 1024x768 after Natty upgrade
i performed upgrade 10.something, whichever "m" version natty via command line on hp compaq dc5700. after install , reboot saw error video card not being compatible unity , dumping me 1024x768.
there no xorg.conf on system , cannot seem single user mode try , configure 1 because grub not appear.

intel i915gm
there known bug chipset , natty. of workarounds include using "i915modeset=0" , "i815modeset=1" in kernel boot line , going /etc/default/grub

there upstream debian bug driver says if try use "vga=xxx" switch on linux 2.6.x kernel , driver, black screen. further says if use besides i915's driver's internal framebuffers, black screen. so-- "i915modeset=0" has set in kernel boot line turn off kms.
