Hue Blend Mode Confusion
hello,
in reading hue blend mode, have come understand (perhaps erroneously) given 2 layers (t)op , (b)ottom, if blend mode of t set hue, hue information in t blended saturation , luminosity in b, means hue information in b replaced hue information in t. however, in running experiments, i've noticed when dealing simple document comprised of 2 layers only, setting blend mode hue changes saturation , brightness.
here steps duplicate observed phenomena using 2 regular layers:
- create new blank document.
- fill color corresponds hsb values (0, 70, 50).
- add new layer above existing layer (blend mode normal).
- fill topmost layer color corresponds hsb values (230, 70, 50).
- using info panel, hsb values document should read (230, 70, 50).
- change blend mode of topmost layer hue.
- using info panel, hsb values document should read (230, 70, 50), instead read (230, 66, 53).
and here steps duplicate observed phenomena using regular layer , adjustment layer:
- create new blank document.
- fill color corresponds hsb values (0, 70, 50).
- add hue/saturation adjustment layer (blend mode normal).
- adjust hue value in properties panel hue/saturation adjustment layer -130.
- using info panel, hsb values document should read (230, 70, 50).
- change blend mode hue/saturation layer hue.
- using info panel, hsb values document should read (230, 70, 50), instead read (230, 66, 53).
the results in both (for me) identical. misunderstanding hue blend mode?
thanks,
matt

the blending happens in hsl model.
you're making measurements in hsb model.
also, changing hue while preserving lightness , saturation result in illegal values - , have clipped valid values (while preserving hue). result in changes lightness or saturation.
