i in sag harbor around time vietnam war leading our present day love affair country manufacturing of our sneakers , apparel, along china of course , 'pacific rim'.
back in late 60's " hippie " culture , young people making noise right america , our music reflected that. music came out of era, , few movies. don't pretend have connection products... affinity.
a friend had " leather shop" on main street in sag harbor then..in 1968, when rent affordable young man , wife talent make leather goods...and candles etc. down street american hotel , across street sag harbor whaling museum, , few doors away " black buoy" ( disreputable whaling type bar of sordid variety ).
the american hotel @ time rented rooms $ 5.00 night. seedy sturdy building, dating days of whales , fishermen. , revolutionary war etc. had harpoons on walls, , other artifacts scattered place, man's bar served men wanted drink off day's work , free society , our constitution admired most. is, if wanted smoke cigarette , laugh , play , drink until hardly walk.
mostly "extreme" of freedom... not idiots. leather shop great success in town, , many intellectuals , artists frequented place long island , nyc.
at time sag harbor went ' avoid ' hamptons... place still had character , spirit of made places comfortable captain of ship, lowest sailor on first whaling trip. when american hotel got bought outsiders , closed renovation, , reopened monstrosity see here... end of era town. hope fare well, really, article , read cheap rooms , outhouses in yard.. not accurate. more vital , beautiful before turned cheap imitation of 4 star hotel in cannes. or whatever mind considers " classy".
minnesota must quite different place. have never been new york state. miss long island culture? keeping busy in minnesota?
