Thread: 11.04 Freezing & Hard Drive Chugging

toshiba satellite pro laptop, 2 years old, dual core 2.16ghz, 2gb ram, 150gb hard drive. dual boots windows 7 & ubuntu.

after upgrading ubuntu 10.10 11.04, started noticing when i've got few applications running, slightest provocation virtually freeze system - becomes totally unresponsive , happens hard drive chugs & chugs, seemingly forever - i'm having hold power key down 5 secs switch machine off & restart.

can advise might going on? kind of swap file activity caused running out of ram?

don't have free space on hard drive - 1.7gb on ubuntu partition & 1.3gb on windows partition - reason problem?

it's not remember 10.10, , using computer in same way, i'm bound wonder if there's problem 11.04 (rather applications i'm running). i'm typically having restart machine 3 or 4 times day, whereas under 10.10 system run quite merrily weeks on end.

typically running chrome, skype, pidgin, deluge, vlc, not else.

grateful advice.

thanks!

alan.
