Thread: need to image entire drive for ntfs file system

i made deal old computers. recover data on drives , try 1 fired give him, in exchange rest of it.

have desktop machine not have o/s installed on it. (i put , have other plans regular o/s). drives ide decided plug ea drive desktop, 1 one, , use live cd's , tools harvest data each; and, hopefully, store raw image on external usb drive. (once images each disk on external can plug laptop operational , burn them onto dvd gui app).

here's thing, guy used winblows. first thought run knoppix , use dd command make image. find out through gparted live though ntfs file system.

here's script used on my own, linux system, image drive:

code:
dd if=/dev/sda of=/media/lacie/backup/hostclone/hostclone.img conv=notrunc,noerror bs=512
and these questions:

~ can dd used on ntfs file system?
~ if so, how code above modified correct?
~ without linux file system, external usb show when plug in? (i think because knoppix have file system associated it.
~ knoppix mount usb /media folder ubuntu does? if not, it?

if can , has solution sure appreciate it. i'm tired fo fiddling around project , want done can play newly acquired parts.

guys.

edit:

tried run knoppix on thing , run live on machine; but, when try run bash tells me 'file system not recognized' or that.

there has easy way image drive.

here's software tools have @ disposal

~ ultimate boot cd 5.0.3
~ knoppix, of course
~ ubuntu 10.04 (which run live)
~ parted magic
~ oh! , "smart ubuntu" also

how can guys?
