Thread: Requesting Clarification on Spam


this request clarification of forum considers spam. in direct relation thread.

ubuntu forum's code of conduct states following spam (referenced : http://ubuntuforums.org/index.php?page=policy)
spam (unsolicited advertising): spam moved spamalot in forum jail , account posting banned. allowed have links personal sites in signature , in profile, , may post them in threads on occasion (just not often, please) long content of site linked not include material violates code of conduct , if not posting other form of advertising.
the original post in question not meet criteria. however, thread referenced lol cats

in fact meet criteria in both persistent. neither thread linked content against code of conduct.

additionally, when sought discuss possible ramifications of both threads , possible appearance of impropriety on part of forum administration, own thread closed. in opinion reason have occured since not outright disrespectful, nor of posters in thread rule.

respect forum staff: provide service in our free time keep forums running efficiently. volunteers. feedback welcome in forum feedback & help , place request assistance forum software issues. if believe error has been made in moderation or other staff actions, please post politely in resolution center , understand perspective.
which asks, not require issues forum moderation posted in resolution center.

seek answers 2 questions.

1 ) spam?
-- appropriate answer defined , enforceable standard.

2 ) why discussion issues effect community , include possibility of biased moderation closed open discussion?

request , original post removed spam, , subsequent posts may fall category restored , clear standard on spam established avoid further misunderstanding. in event standard defining spam established in such manner referenced post deemed spam, expect moderators promptly identify other offending posts on forum meet criteria, may have been posted forum staff.

seeing though still have not gotten reply this, figured present few more questions in regard matter.

recent correspondence have seen administrator in relation topic of spam posts says this.

it not fair use forums high traffic , high google rank own personal benefit.
while, agree statement when comes advertising company, begs question, if forum administration concerned why not using nofollow , robots.txt prevent these sites being indexed ubuntuforums.org?

far traffic goes, people sentient beings, logical (mostly) , , able make own decisions. original post not convoluted or deceptive in way. asked favor, did not have granted. post asking unbricking system. thing pst in question asked click, relatively innocuous reason. nobody going make money, exception of potentially poster's son have received scholarship. that's not bad it?

ironically, reported spam myself less 24 hours ago. supposed cracker selling stolen credit card info, scam. spam, detrimental visitor's of website. well, illegal. clear reason removing it.

have yet see actual clear reason wasn't based in opinion why referenced post removed.
