Why use 3 different disks for editing


hi forum,

 

can please explain why important use @ least 3 different high speed physical disks editing?

 

i working with1920 - 1080 blackmagic motion jpeg footage, , @ moment storage setup

 

c: os/programs

external esata raid 0: captured media/scratch files/project files..

 

i editing on both workstation , laptop swapping esata raid drive between systems, on workstation experiencing occasional playback , exporting problems while editing on workstation.

 

on laptop worse, playback regularly pauses long periods before continuing or crashing (not responding)

 

could above mentioned problems due storage setting? if can away adding additional external esata 7200 store render/scratch/project files? input appreciated.

 

my pc configurations are:

 

hp z400 workstation

2.67ghz, 2661 mhz quad core

16 gb ram

1tb internal 7200 rpm

external esata 4 tb raid 0

premiere cs5.5

win 7 pro os

 

laptop

 

toshiba satellite a660

i7 cpu 1.73ghz 1733 mhz quad core

500 gb internal 7200 ppm

external esata 4 tb raid 0

4 gb ram

premiere cs5.5

win 7 home premium.

in short, need multiple disk setup eliminate reading/writing @ same time conflicts. see optimizing hard disks video todd. video contains reference this harm's article disk setup.

 

also laptop amount of ram far below of need performance. practical minimum 8-12 gb (and 24 gb or higher - optimal performance).
