Critical Error installing CS3 on Win7 64bit

hi all,

i've combed through forums , tried every fix i've read, nothing has worked.  i've been given new work laptop clean install of windows 7 64-bit enterprise edition running sp1.  full administrator privledges.

i attempting install adobe photoshop cs3 straight dvd, no updates, patches, etc.

after running either autorun or directly setup.exe within adobe cs3 folder, initializing adobe photoshop cs3 bar makes between 80-90% before jumping loading setup screen i'm presented error, "critical errors found in setup. please see setup log file details."

ok, support pages have had me "fatal" (case sensitive) within setup log.  appears on last line of 80 mb text file.  here's surrounding elements:

loading page "installationprogress" c:\program files (x86)\common files\adobe\installers\2ac78060bc5856b0c1cf873bb919b58\resources\pages\installationprogre ss\installationprogress.js

updating path win32

wizardcontrol: loading page "complete" c:\program files (x86)\common files\adobe\installers\2ac78060bc5856b0c1cf873bb919b58\resources\pages\complete\complete. js

edit: additional system specs:

160 gb free on c:

4 gb ram

adobe reader , acrobat installed, acrobat installed after began receiving error.  haven't tried running reader uninstalled.

you know it's not supported run photoshop cs3 on windows 7, right?

that said, should possible make work.

have tried running installer administrator?  uac doesn't give administrative privileges unless escalate installation.  complete unawareness of uac 1 of reasons adobe doesn't support running photoshop cs3 on windows 7.

if you're saddled problems running older applications on windows 7 , need compatibility vs. dubious added protection uac provides, there way turn uac off.  suggest read uac , understand before taking route.
