Thread: Dual-Booting with Windows 7
so, tomorrow i'm going receive nice windows 7 disc computer. however, want photoshop , itunes, really. don't want rid of ubuntu. period. want able dual boot computer.
problem haven't been able find information on setting linux installed first. i've seen plenty of guides on how install ubuntu alongside windows, if windows installed.
can give me pointers or send me guide me out? know windows's bootloader going try take over, , i'm going need bit of help, i'm no tech genius.
it's pretty easy, really. have make room on disk windows. can using live cd , gparted shrink ubuntu partition (you cannot on running ubuntu partition have use cd). best make space in front of ubuntu. google how use gparted, it's pretty easy figure out.
can boot win7 cd , tell install empty space.
aware ubuntu mbr over-written windows mbr. once you've installed windows won't able boot ubuntu. have reinstate ubuntu (grub) mbr.
this, boot live cd again , do
sudo fdisk -l find drive name, sda, , partition linux in, sda2.
reinstall grub
sudo mount /dev/sda2 /mnt
sudo grub-install --boot-directory=/mnt/boot /dev/sda
reboot ubuntu , run
sudo update-grub
add windows boot menu
or
run windows in ubuntu using virtualbox. easy , although windows won't run quite should fine photoshop , itunes. download http://www.virtualbox.org/
take more learning useful tool. can install os , try out. need couple of gb of ram work well.
