Thread: Is Linux Mint likely to give me different results?

i'm working cr-48 laptop google pilot program. i've installed ubuntu 11.04 on , used instructions on askubuntu upgrade gnome 3 , install gnome shell via official gnome 3 ppa.

had ran qwirkiness, laptop randomly freeze in middle of suspending or resuming. there times go suspend, screen goes blank except background, , never powers off. sits there doing nothing, forcing me shut off manually, of course loses that's running. likewise, there times menus text turn squares, , nothing selectable. it's system goes sort of shutdown/lock mode. icons disappear, text changes squares, etc.

installed linux mint 11 , installed gnome 3 , gnome shell ppa using same instructions. while ran linux mint matter of 4 hours or so, ran flawless me, , used kind of hard.

time want better idea, made clonezilla backup image of ubuntu 11.04 install gnome shell, , i'm on linux mint same setup before. i'm going use extensively see if run issues.

resolve issues, i've ran hard drive test, memtest 12 hours, redid partition table when formatted, , ensured laptop cool @ times make sure wasn't doing thermal shutdown.

being said, i'm curious. had no issues in few hours ran linux mint. why? don't know. ubuntu surprised me , ran flawless, run issue after issue. part of me wonders if it's hardware issue, part of me wonders if it's because of fact i'm patching ubuntu gnome 2.x gnome 3 , installing ppa on top of it.

anyway, being said, there linux mint suggest may have no issues it? or mint , ubuntu similar it's not worth time compare? i'm trying idea if there's high chance different results.

i'm hoping goes away release of 11.10 gnome 3 installed default, , can install gnome shell after installing. likewise, still might hardware issue, if i'm clueless what.

if want run gnome3 now, why don't try fedora 15 has gnome3 it's default desktop environment.
