Thread: Recover ext4 after wrongly converting it to ntfs
hey guys,
did following dumb thing: not knowing doing, wanted change format of backup drive ext4 ntfs. thought possible without erasing data, done formating drive. because took 6 sec, have still hope data not destroyed.
question is: there possibilities data back? unmounted drive afterwards , did not write it.
suggestions welcome,
fabian
i may not 100% on this, quick format sets partition order data in way. while data still there, information describes file system (the locations of files, i.e. parts of physical hard disk files kept) missing. lot of raw information still there, may corrupted format. might lucky data recovery tools, or pay recovered (very expensive, in terms of $ per file/mb) if data can't recovered via conventional means (backups, sourcing net etc) , really, need back.
there tools can attempt data recovery in non destructive way, tried foremost attempt recover accidentally deleted files (shift-deleted when wrong windows in focus) without success, don't rate chances highly given you've given different file system contend with.
maybe else here can offer more hope...
