1.7 to 2.5 upgrade fail - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

i trying upgrade 1.7.2 2.5. received -1 upload errors, found thread viewtopic.php?p=2646455 , hacked error reporting see files needed change permissions on make work. turns out pretty whole administrator directory, made 777 , tried again. next fail actual index file of installation directory created in tmp file, , can't change permissions/ownership (when created owned apache) of file created.

i'm out of ideas. there way hand upgrade instead of using built in upgrade system? tried dragging on 2.5 files, database needs "fixed" after think (because internal server error), , don't know how "fix" without logging admin , hitting "fix." there mysql command run right database after uploading 2.5 files?

don't use 777, directory permissions should 755. want recusrively change dir , file permissions on files 644 , dirs 755.

always backup before trying things this, otherwise you'll trash site , may never recover. backup allows revert effortlessly , try again.

there's no built in upgrade process? clobbered files , executed packaged mysql installation code.....there's extension jupgrade can at, process may not 100% automated , require intervention on part.

check owns files, make sure not root , uploading/creating files otherwise apache might locked out. php spawns processes may not have access files, folders, , etc.

1)recursively change dirs 755
2)recursively change files 644
3)set apache owner of
4)make full backup of site (mysql , files)
5)read jupgrade , entire process

there no mysql command "fix" broken database or fix trashed site trying upgrade.

you can fix mysql, may require altering tables , lot more isn't ideal , doing manually sucks.
