How to make 3D object look like it's spinning?
i creating logo , client wants cylindrical shape tire treads on it's spinning. i've created 3d cylinder , mapped tire tread artwork onto it, can't seem figure out way make 'look' it's spinning. i've tried little bit of shadow treads (slightly darker color) , tried copy/paste additional treads off on x value (making additional treads darker 'step down'). not sure if < description makes sense, i'm not quite sure how accomplish this. ideas? i'm working in illustrator cs6.
since you're talking "3d", assume you're not trying make black , white logo.
i suggest creating blend between 2 instances of tread symbol. set 1 of symbols "0%" opaque (transparent). resulting blend give blur effect (you can play number of steps in blend).
now make blend symbol , map 3d cylinder.
there many other ways approach "motion" effect. among them are:
1. creating gradient solid transparent , filling "swooshes" on tire tread.
2. using raster blur effect. ai not have motion blur, per se, can mimic using radial blur , offsetting blur center corner.
someone else may have better idea.
hope these help.
ok, played around bit. here 1 way make motion blur in ai (since there not "motion blur" filter).
please note single anchor point near top. required, force radial blur filter work more motion blur.
here's approach:
the blur effect created building art brush created blending 2 rectangles together. bottom rectangles set transparent, giving brush more versatility.
this illustrator "work-around" because gradients cannot used in brush. suggest keeping original brush artwork in "symbol" can edit brush using original blends. if drag brush onto artboard, you'll find blend has been expanded multiple rectangles.
