Loss of AutoNum Override (Unstruct to Struct)
we in process of converting unstructured structured.
when baseline unstructured document has entire paragraph modified, change of text in paragraph red applying character tag. if paragraph has auto number changes paragraph’s auto number character color. when conversion structure, text in paragraph remains red auto number goes original color. have tried , without “flag paragraph format overrides” , “flag character format overrides” try something, nothing changed. corrected after conversion selecting entire paragraph, going character designer (which shows correct character tag), , hitting apply.
we have tried on windows (7/vista) framemaker 9, 10 , , 11 same results. trying figure out of expected behavior or bug. know if how should work?
along same lines..a superscripted character in middle of paragraph no longer superscripted, not red, , not wrapped in character tag element. text on either side of (same paragraph) wrapped in character tag element.
thanks
in theory , in practices, structured document has no formatting. structured document elements inside elements , text inside elements. 1 should never (at least in opinion) apply formatting structured document, neither @ paragraph level nor @ character level.
the proper way format structured document through application processes it, in case application framemaker. framemaker formats structured document via document's edd, not describes allowed structure applies formatting structure using rules author of edd sets up.
so, if want mark content being modified coloring content red, 1 use attribute in each element specify whether content modified or not. thus, if attribute name modified, element original content has modified attribute set no , element changed content has modified attribute set yes. on can specify default value no, author not have set whenever new content created. thus, when author modifies content, author changes modified attribute no yes. edd formats color of text according whether modified attribute yes or no.
that being said, 1 can track changes using framemakers tracking feature; however, not , have never used it, leave others explain it.
in edd, superscript , subscript characters wrapping characters in element attributes specify whether characters superscripted or subscripted. edd reads attribute values , formats characters accordingly. point structured document has no formatting. "applied" formatting done wrapping content in elements , assigning values attributes in elements. on other hand, current version , recent versions of framemaker compatible unicode. so, if unicode font has superscripted or subscripted characters, 1 can insert them without having wrap them in elements. such characters limited numbers , few letters.
conversions unstructured documents structured ones not always, rarely, clean. 1 typically has lot of clean after conversion structure correct, is, valid. flag paragraph format overrides , flag character format overrides features in conversion process. used show paragraphs , character strings formatting in unstructured document different formatting applied edd. these features clean these areas assigning correct elements , attributes. not used in everyday processing of structured documents. again, formatting done edd (in template) not writer's applying unstructured formats.
i hope helps,
van
