you can of course of or use professional company . in terms of issues first thing it product audit of major elements of site, that's do, , ensure supported in joomla 2.5 , if not see if there alternatives fulfill requirements.
the next step take backup of live site , move site either offline (local) machine or sub directory ensuring change robots text instruct search engines not index contents within.
you (we) install fresh install of joomla use migration tool spupgrade - search joomla extnetions move contents, users, menus etc. old site new.
the next step rebuild site assigning modules correct positions , using live site guidance recreate pages match, modifying css , using overrides on functionality if required.
final step ensuring site worked on major browsers , using akeeba backup new site , move replace old site. testing, monitor 404 errors , using redirect tool point these correct pages.
issues can expect, not modules, components support joomla 2.5 need changed. if use akeeba latest version requires php version 5.3 components still apparently don't support, although our server run 5.3 have yet find one.
if think still need professional service please pm , happy discuss migration service , show our portfolio
