okay, fortunately, pretty easy , painless process.
joomla has been installed subdirectory (called joomla). needs done, backup everything, move old site folder called "oldsite", , move joomla out of "joomla" folder, , root directory, called public_html (where old site used be).
firstly, making backup. it's make complete backup before huge file move (or upgrade, or make major change). highlight of files , folders inside "public_html", , click "download" button @ top. may take while, have complete copy of files in old , new sites time done.
next, once backup done, need move of files old website subfolder called "oldsite". can call folder want, long know is. make sure exclude joomla folder process.
if don't think you'll ever need access old site again, can skip step, , delete old site files. remember not copy or delete joomla folder.
once old website files have been moved or removed, open joomla folder. highlight of files, , click "move file" button. select destination, should "public_html" folder. should quick operation.
that should it. should able access joomla site via normal website address. aware if there parts of joomla use absolute paths (the full website address, http://www.website.com/templates/templa ... /image.jpg) rather relative paths (only part of website address, so: ../images/image.jpg), need correct these. not big issue worry about, it's worth mentioning, can hamper newly moved joomla websites.
also, obvious, start moving old site, old site not accessible. reason, may want wait until sure visitors not hanging around site.
good luck!
