Thread: dual boot from cloned drive fails

i'm running 10.10 , dual boot windows 7.

have separate /boot partition on single disk contains windows7 , raid 1 rest of linux

single drive started develop errors on sectors decide clone (clonezilla) drive.

when rebooting new drive, grub menu , can boot windows7, when trying boot linux get:

error: file not found
error: need load kernel first

guess there wrong grub. while there many posts on how reinstall, update, etc. grub2, have specific question.

files other in /boot modified during update/reinstall? reason i'm asking have working system right (although dud sectors) , want make sure don't loose that.

windows more tolerable bad sectors linux. advice backup want keep , replace drive asap. answer question if home directory not separate root reinstall overwrite home folder. data in home folder lost.
