Thread: wireless not working (drivers installed with no issue)

i have friend's dell inspiron e1505 wanted have xubuntu installed on replace windows.

install went great (restricted sources enabled, b43 drivers installed automatically).

after install, noticed wireless network wasn't showing in network manager widget. noticed wifi light on cluster dark. decided uninstall b43 driver, run updates, reboot, re-install b43, reboot, , check again.

no networks. no wifi indicator light on cluster.
network manager didn't have wireless section on list.

know router on , working, because had device conneced , working properly.

f3 key has wireless symbol, thought maybe needed use function+f3 turn on hardware, no luck.

has else had issue?
if so, how did solve it?

sent him home use on wired network @ home work done, i'd able wireless working.

appreciated both of us.

dell's often, not always, have problem module translates key presses, fn+f3 in case, useful information kernel can act on, in case, "please turn on wireless, mr. kernel."

please ask friend open terminal , do:
code:
lsmod
does see module dell-laptop? if so, let's remove , see if wireless works:
code:
sudo rmmod -f dell-laptop sudo rfkill unblock all
does wireless work now? if so, can amend 1 file make persistent.

if doesn't work, let's see:
code:
dmesg | grep b43
the pipe symbol | on right side of keyboard on same key \. thanks.
