Time manipulation

hi guys,

i have taken @ of video-copilot tutorials on time manipulation, , have question or 2 around after effects , frame rates.

the panasonic camera using, according documentation, can record several frame rates has variable frame rate capabilities. footage shot native camera, direct card records @ around 192mb per second (24 megabytes) , dont believe that, good. if record external device, same 10 second test results in 1880mb per second (235 megabytes). great deal better, , contains lot more information allow more post work.

the problem finding, according documentation, cannot record higher 30fps external recording device, hd-sdi cannot handle data rates greater 1080/30p. if use device ( samurai recording device) apparently, each frame automatically embedded field 1080/50i data stream.

obviously when import directly after effects, need re-interpret footage , select correct field first - motion pretty slow motion (if imported standard 25fps composition - working in land of pal) obvious motion issues (strobing or skewing). question this:

is right way go, or should record standard 25fps camera recording device ( @ data rate of 1766mb per second (220.8 megabytes) ) , purchase third party time manipulator twixtor slow downs?

there interresting paragraph in camera documentation dont quite understand though, , not familiar software mentioned - if may, quote paragraph (ok, ill paraphrase) , see if can explain bit better?

"with post manipulation, can 1080/60p out of af100. camera records @ 60 progressive fields per second. when camera in 1080/24p or 1080/30p , frame rate of 60 selected, camera records 60 discrete frames each second. file have playback rate of 24p or 30p encoded in it, if changed playback rate? say, if went cinema tools , "conformed" footage have timebase of 59.94p instead of 29.97p or 23.976p? become full fledged, live  1080/60p footage. 60fps played @ 60fps = full screen, full quality 1080/60p. , of course same applies 50hz mode - resulting in full fledged 1080/50p"

the camera settings in pal-land ph 1080/50i, ph1080/25p, ph 720/50p , ph720/25p - since best quality give 50i, paragraph above confuses me bit, how 1080/50p it? - of course, assuming camera set 1080/25p , frame rate set 50fps allow above mentioned outcome. anyway, once again, maybe not entirely after effects question, appreciated.

forget 24p thing.  not yield results want.  shoots 23.976 frames per second, evenly spreads them across 59.94 frames/sec.  classic 3:2 pulldown may have heard about.  have 59.94 frames/sec, 23.976 discrete frames/sec.  that's not slo-mo.  it's not slo-mo.

24p isn't if footage still @ 59.94 because need remove pulldown before time manipulation done.  , leave you?  @ 23.976 frames/sec... isn't slo-mo.

the problem time manipulation slowing things down, yet retaining image quality.  calls highest frame rate possible.  in case, 720p50, let reduce speed factor of 2 no loss of image quality.  using plugin twixtor, slow down more.

the more discrete frames per second have, slower can go.  why phantom cameras exist: can shoot 1200 frames/sec.
