Thread: brcm80211 freezes system
hardware: acer aspire 1 722, amd ontario c50, 4 gb ddr3, broadcom 4313 wifi card
software: win 7 + ubuntu 11.04 (linux booted separate boot partition, not mbr if matters)
i've installed above ubuntu distro. wireless worked @ first, proprietary sta driver installed. wanted try using aircrack-ng figured need proper wifi card driver.
b43 seems not support chipset wanted compile module sources written in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...ight=brcm80211.
i've downloaded git repositories i've failed make brcm8011 because of missing kernel header files (which - oddly enough - in proper place, weren't detected makefile script or something). anyway when idea compilation failed read more stuff , turned out brcm80211 included in kernel 2.6.38 have. searching in files proved brcm80211.ko module there, not running in kernel.
question 1: why doesn ubuntu want install proprietary driver while has open driver available?
i've removed proprietary driver , did
code:sudo modprobe mac80211 sudo insmod brcm80211.ko
whenever boot ubuntu system freezes while loading gnome. figured wrong wireless driver , freezes system (needs hard reset) while trying connect.
question 2: how turn stuff off, boot normally? how force gnome not try use wireless? can boot recovery mode.
