Thread: How to administer a server from a remote network ?


hi,

have ubuntu 10.4 server, it's local intranet server in of router in "standard" home network. understand laptops, pcs , server "hidden" direct contact internet network address translation [nat]. router linksys wrt54g clients connected it, , router connected modem provided isp. server given static ip address. admin server connect local client ssh , command-line.

there way admin server if thousand miles away local network? putting way, there way "tunnel" through server, give user/pw , command-line internet? software or hardware needed?

i'm sure done lot i've never done before. appreciated.

yeah-- have access router , (potentially) modem? need setup port forwarding whatever port use ssh. or, alternatively (what i'd recommend) use hamachi. it's configure-less vpn option take care of tunneling you. check out. linux version here: https://secure.logmein.com/labs/ .
