Thread: Ubuntu 11.04 Running EXTREMLY HOT on Acer laptop

hey

ive been using ubuntu week now.. used use linux alot along time ago, switched on windows play games dont seem getting support wine.

ive moved ubuntu , ive fixed majority of problems myself apart one..

dont know why when login ubuntu, can hear fan running pretty @ maximum speed , bottom of laptop extremely hot.. making me sweat (no kidding).

checked on system monitor see processes using cpu, , appears no more 20% of cpu being used @ 1 time, infact system monitor uses more cpu other application.

tried adding lines /etc/modules file fix problem, briefly solved issue, come back?..

have no idea whats wrong laptop, not old either, know alot of people saying "crack open , reapply thermal paste" im positive useless suggestion.

running amd processor , ati gpu, ive heard theres not support for, in past versions of ubuntu, ive had no problems @ all..

have suggestions?..

think if doesnt resolved within couple of days, ill trying re-install older version of ubuntu, , if thats still causing problems, ill resort different os.. didn't of these issues windows, im wondering whats up.

cheers if can though

also added following lines /etc/modules

code:
battery ac thermal processor acpi-cpufreq cpufreq-userspace
it solved problem 1 day..

im using cpu scaler too, , doesnt seem use... ive got firefox open , using maximum cpu usage.. what!?

know fan working too, can hear mile away
