Thread: Ubuntu 9.10 & Above, Hang during startup.

hi all,
i'm not linux guru. i'm casual user. here's info:

computer spec:-
asus p5pe-vm
core 2 duo 2.21ghz (i think..)
2gb ram ddr1
pcie 3850 (agp edition)
dvd, harddisk..etc etc...

put, have not been sleeping 2 days, on 56k modem, on...
1. download 32bit version of ubuntu 11.04, burn cd - installed & after boot up, select ubuntu on grub loader, hang on "ubuntu" screen... so...
2. download 32bit version of ubuntu 10.10, burn cd - installed & after boot up, select ubuntu on grub loader, hang on "ubuntu" screen... so...
3. download 32bit version of ubuntu 10.04, burn cd - installed & after boot up, select ubuntu on grub loader, hang on "ubuntu" screen... so...

right down ubuntu 8.04... amen! ubuntu works! however,...

thought can try update ubuntu 8.04, right 10.10... or 10.04... using sudo update-manager -d.... or through cd upgrades.. or something..etc..

cut chase, unable upgrade (through 56k modem on internet or through cd), spend hours & hours, coffee's help... sun till sun down, trying find ways upgrade/install 10.10, hang on "ubuntu" screen!

without luck, 8.04 works (for unknown reason)!


so, here's question:-

1 . if use ubuntu 8.04 & update packages maximum (update-manager), missing out cool application? newer application (example, google chrome), still works 8.04? need upgrade version ubuntu distros, enjoy cool desktop compiz? newer application, require newer ubuntu work?

2. realized in ubuntu 8.04, have 2 working deskop enviroment (buttom right). thought linux have 4 desktop enviroment... how set 4?

3. idea why ubuntu 9.10 , above, hang during "ubuntu" screen? (i have tried "dual boot windows" till/to.. "clean & full installation of ubuntu" - epic fail) version 8.04 works..


hope there ubuntu gurus out there, listen cry... t.t

please help! i'll check forum tomorrow. need sleep, recovering 48 hours of non-sleep! omg.. @@!

in addition...

tried option "recovery mode" or something.. no work on 9.10 , above.. hangs on "ubuntu" screen @ startup...

8.04 works charm.

ran "update manager", shows me...

"new distribution release "10.04.2 lts" available"..

should or should not upgrade? i'm worried happens again if so. willing give go, if guys got cool ideas/resolution...

After Effect warning: A problem occurred when processing OpenGL commands

i have after effects cs6 in computer cs5.5 installed. 64bit windows 7 ultimate 20gb memory , 2 amd radeon hd 6900 series display adapters drivers updated hour ago (driver date 27.7.2012, version 8.982.0.0).   when trying use after ecffects, error message " after effect warning: problem occurred when processing opengl commands " when clicking composition window.   what done? not much, i'm afraid. need older graphics driver. other disable second card or play configuration. unfortunately not smart person decided cs6 no longer need manual opengl control user, there's no way suppress within program force-revert software-only modes in case of such issues...   mylenium More discussions in After Effects adobe
