Thread: Update Manager "Check" button not working in Natty.

i can open update manager fine , runs though it's little gambit of "building data structures" etc...

@ top says "the package information last updated 13 hours ago."

before updated natty used able click on "check" button , prompt me password , check updates.

if click "check" button goes grey bit, never asks me password , comes same "the package information last updated 13 hours ago." message.

however, if load terminal , type out "sudo apt-get update" go , load update manager again "the package information last updated less 1 hour ago." should happening when click "check" button.

i've tried deleting lists didn't resolve issue. clue else happening here?

noticed had updates available when loaded synaptic package manager didn't show when loaded update manager.

i've tried re-installing update-manager. i've gone far complete removal , installed again. still not working right.

think has fact it's not prompting me password used to...

ok. here's deal. since not prompting me password wanted see how launching.

in properties of "update manager" icon noticed had in command line "/usr/bin/update-manager".

if open termnial , type in "sudo update-manager" work fine. changed command "su-to-root -x -c /usr/bin/update-manager" , seems working fine now.

there problems doing way? also, can @ properties of update-manager launcher , see if command different mine?

know there gksu command can used similar results. want make sure though i'm doing works, it's right way it.

thank you!
