Featured Articles- public vs registered users - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support
hi,
i brand new joomla, , sure n00b question, don't know correct terminology looking answers myself. can point me in right direction.
i sure is, once explained me, both obvious , easy correct.
i have simple site following menu's defined
home
news
tips , tricks
the home menu, configured display featured articles entire site (ie, home page show in newest published order articles published in news , tips , tricks sections)
news has category created called news, , configured display featured articles "news" category
same tips , tricks, category created , featured articles.
my intent visitor see selection of newest articles entire site in home page, , see specific featured articles categorized each sub-section (news or tips , tricks) within menu locations.
so, when log site using registered account, looks , works great. home page shows articles each section, sorted newest oldest, , each sub-menu shows content specific section.
when "guest", not registered site, each menu shows same items. home shows (working properly), news shows featured articles home page, same tips , tricks.
basically, every menu page, when user visits unregistered guest, displays exact same content displayed on home page. strange thing (to me) works find when logged in... not appear categorization working correctly, or there kind of inheritance taking place when visitor isn't registered
running joomla 2.5.8 on lamp stack
using modified (only html changes) beez5 template
have jcomments installed (but disabled currently, thinking might have been problem)
joomgallery
kunena forum
akeeba backup
example menu configuration:
name: tips , tricks
menu item type: featured articles
status: published
access: public
menu location: main menu
layout options:
select categories: tips , tricks
any idea how can start troubleshooting this, or why site displays correctly registered users not guest users
thanks,
jman,

thanks,
jman,
do have actual featured articles each set "public" access , others set "registered"?
if so, may wish set category called "featured" , post copies of featured articles public access that, , still have others flagged "registered".
you change home page default menu item category blog of "featured" category.
make sense?
good luck!
