Need to "Place" Images on White Coffee Mugs

i creating virtual samples of several hundred coffee mugs using ps cs 5.5. (i have access cs6 haven't installed it.) there 2 views of each mug, front , back. images wrapped around mug pdfs of identical rectangular dimensions. in general, effect seek  happens automatically using 3d cylinder or soda can shapes.

 

1. possible buy , install other shapes? can buy white coffee mug?

 

2. thinking doing using wrap tool , "placing" image on mug, changing opacity multiply. doing way makes effect more "real." don't know how automate or if can be. far, i'm thinking hand work.

 

any suggestions? there approach?

 

btw, average ps user. not expert, not novice. have never used 3d.

one can import files of 3d formats (file > place).

but cylinder layer mask hide 3d layer on area of handle not suffice?

i assume mean photograph of white mug.

you might want lights of photograph onto multiply layer blend if-settings or layer masks or …

something approximated warped or puppet warped smart objects, content of switched.

but distortion not perfect, rendering on clyindrical shape »unlit texture« might turn out better.
