Should Photoshop be considered an Art class or a Technology class?

within our school having conversation our high school principal whether or not photoshop , illustrator should categorized art class or technology class.

 

this unfortunately black , white situation , therefore has either categorized art or technology. ramification of these decisions determines pedigogical practice employed within classroom... taught art perspective? tool artist? or taught piece of software? determines whether higher art teacher teacher class, or technology teacher.

 

i hoping opinion of adobe professionals, other schools, , graphic designers out there regarding situation before make assertion 1 side or other our principal!

seems me you're trying force square peg round hole in trying make such artificial distinctions , there's no satisfactory absolute answer such dichotomy.

 

the fact it's both (to me it's "digital art") , depends on you're trying @ given time.

 

you cannot discuss artistic side without being aware of how works technically (it's crunching lot of numbers every time click mouse button) , vice versa.

 

having said that, people see software software. that's obvious viewpoint. technical problems solve @ every turn ("how i...?") , stuff learned.

 

but in classroom situation, try immerse students in environment created photoshop , broaden horizons. "can i...?"

 

develop enjoyment , experience point software becomes invisible , focus on images , boundless possibilities.

 

art teachers in natural media don't spend entire class teaching tools: brushes, paints , pigments. try instill love art.

 

with photoshop, technical side ever present - wrestles - creative, artistic side can nurtured skilled educators (who comfortable enough technical side) and, me, successful class 1 leaves me inspired , wanting more.
