just venting.
just chiming in.
i tend keep software current. personal list of adobe purchases quite long. compare these 2 experiences:
adobe:
c$6 master collection upgrade: upgrade directly c$5 priced more upgrade worthless (especially in regards illustrator) c$5.5. avoid being gouged, 1 had upgrade c$5 c$5.5, had that in short timeframe between annoucnement of c$6 , actual release of c$6. had jump through ridiculous hoop of buying copy of c$5.5 upgrade, never used. pay additional $30 receive on physical media rather have download absurdly huge installers. wait arrive. use coupon code upgrade c$6. arrived in ridiculous gratuitous-fluff-over-substance marketing box big enough manual, of course containing small packet of 3 dvds. adobe's documentation has of course degenerated current hideous everything-online web-based defaults, whereby adobe not eschews responsibility provide proper manuals, seems attempting shift responsibility documentation authorship on blind-leading-the-blind customers.
cost me, $1200. experience since start of adobe's "suites" has trained me dread running installers. it's still sitting on desk, waiting me dedicate potential day or 2 of problem sorting deal it. whole experience of new adobe version announcement has become matter of dread me. i've come expect alot of anguish , expense, far little gained in practical funtionality. makes me feel more captive customer.
corel:
about same time, 64 bit coreldraw graphics suite x6 released. upgrade pricing $200 @ time of announcement, , available users of draw 2 full versions back. no need buy skipped-over version. besides draw , photopaint, includes 1000 opentype fonts, large clipart collections (including practical ones 2000 vehicle templates) font management utility (bitstream font navigator), screen capture utility, , (reasonable size) download of new , straightforward web building program (website creator x6).
with bad taste of adobe upgrade lingering, running bit delinquent ordering upgrades other software, including draw. corel announced limited-time discount in august $150. practice, ordered boxed version. no charge that. monday. received thursday. coming home work, opened package , delighted find dvd residing in sleeve inside front cover of full-color coated stock perfect bound hardback user manual, in turn contained in sturdy bookshelf slip cover. no "dead airspace" in whole tidy package. walked right out studio; installed in minutes. reclined evening give manual quick & comfortable read, free of computer desk , online tedium.
dread versus pleasant surprise. difference in customer experience striking.
