Thread: After update: "could not find kernel image:linux" 10.04
ok, seems newbie problem isn't. after while updated ubuntu box remotely through freenx (ssh). little brother (7 year old) using machine in other account. left , windows laptop remote session suspend. after logged in again , found remote session closed (it weird. log in , account stays open). shut down system did:
sudo shutdown -p 2
, after while system shut down.
morning little brother wanted play again , found computer doesn't go grub 2. splash
syslinux xxxxxxx
not find kernel image:linux
boot:
don't have idea why or how.
did:
1. reinstall grub 2 livecd http://help.ubuntu.com/community/grub2
2. searched forum , found same repost problem newbies lost kernel binary image usb pen-drive
3. chroot partition , update or reinstall grub2 didn't work either
4. change boot flag , reinstall grub didn't work
5. cheat vmlinuz , modify mbr , create syslinuz.cfg file in order boot hard drive usb (flag boot changed partition). not find page find it, i'll post fast can find again
attempts let me same problem again , again
don't know why tossed syslinux instead of grub
can't provide more information because don't know how trough this. using machine , did'nt work anymore. can log in , chroot using livecd seems in right place.
please me. don´t want reinstall toolchains , programs have until next lts.
my little brother did cold reboot during update (he did , didn't know).
after looking gparted noticed hard drives labeled boot. hard drive data in ext4 1 th box using boot. explains why not making changes while reintalled grub , on.
solution: delete boot flags other hard drives , reinstall grub.
