Thread: GIMP, Wacom and Unity/Compiz incompatability.

to surprise i'm finding unity in 11.04, there 1 small problem means have log in classic no-effects lot of time.

when working in gimp using wacom pen (which lot), not lines draw show up. maybe every 1 in 5 lines, don't show up, , it's brush outline freezes. becomes pretty annoying when drawing, why log in standard gnome without effects when using gimp.

there minor problem think may related, , when open windows in gimp, such save or open dialog, won't able click in pen. need click canvas in background, , after works. seems though brush stuck on canvas, similar happens when drawing.

i've tried different compiz settings vsync , others, nothing made work. seems problem when using wacom pen, , not when using mouse.

has here found solution problem?

hmmm....i decided try , figure 1 out on own, , think may have found solution own problem here.

tried various things, did trick going edit>preferences>windows management in gimp, , setting both "hint toolbox" , "hint other docks" "normal window" (not keep above or utility window). after problem seems have gone away. tried right clicking title bar of toolbox , setting "always on top", brought problem.

downside if toolbox on canvas, , change focus canvas, vanish behind canvas. can either use alt-tab bring front (or use easystroke gestures do), or not maximize canvas, , leave toolbox visible on either side of canvas.

did still seem similar problem when using extremely large brushes (500px or more), might delay machine writing canvas. happens when drawing second stroke after using toolbox, neither of these problematic.

tried removing stuff toolbox, such picture preview, undo cue , layers, see if of cause (as updated when draw), none of helped.

said, i'm pretty happy solution , can keep using unity work.
