Thread: Synaptic Ubuntu Icon and how to tell if a package is installed

hi all,

read ubuntu icon next packages in synaptic package manager means package installed default on ubuntu.
a) true?
b) if search 'lapack', synaptic tells me liblapack-dev installed (because of ubuntu icon). however, if search dpkg --get-selections | grep blas in terminal, nothing
appears. so, how best way know if package installed already?

thanks!

ubuntu icon means it's supported ubuntu (canonical).

if box green means it's installed.
