i added root user group debian-transmission

usermod -a -g debian-transmission root

then changed permissions directory

chown -r debian-transmission:debian-transmission /var/lib/transmission-daemon/info/downloads/  chmod 770 -r /var/lib/transmission-daemon/info/downloads/

i can't save files in "download-dear"... why?

i encountered difficulties file permissions when had transmission save downloads within /var/lib/transmission-daemon/. therefore, changed transmissions setting download folder within home directory. ensure both , debian-transmission user had read/write permissions, added account debian-transmission group (which created when install transmission), , changed group ownership of torrent download directory debian-transmission. doing grants debian-transmission group read/write access folder, preserves read/write/execute access account, , prevents access others.

$ sudo usermod -a -g debian-transmission mjdescy
$ chgrp debian-transmission ~/dl/torrent
$ chmod 770 ~/dl/torrent

changed “umask” setting default of 18 2. means transmission-daemon create files read/write permissions set @ both user , group level.
