next set of translations ubuntu 11.04 "natty narwhal" ready. please test them. please take special care test localization of firefox since there changes in how firefox handles translations. please ask teams test them , provide indication they've done following simple steps , submitting signoff.

we've got bunch of new rockstars since last status report 11.04 including daniel van vugt, marius gedminas, manuel nicetto, jeremy bicha, nico van der walt, , cameron heart. of more familiar names marco biscaro, oliver sauder, , andrea azzarone have been awesome @ fixing bugs. contribute unity, follow step step instructions , wiki page. code launchpad, set development environment, , getting used launchpad workflow. then, pick bug, fix bug, , code unity. join ~unity-community-hackers team , start digging in. there weekly meeting @ 000utc on #ayatana on freenode irc if feel hanging , getting organized , ask questions.

daniel holbach writes busy week oneiric development. oneiric still in development phase, of heavy lifting being done , things still broken. goes on still great time involved , fix few issues on. interesting dates coming in next few weeks include dh_python2 porting jam on june 23rd , ubuntu developer week coming july 11th 15th. week full of development tutorials, workshops , interactive sessions. week, hear abhinav upadhyay india , experience getting fixes ubuntu.

@ june 16th america's membership meeting, brian thomason welcomed official ubuntu membership! brian works canonical technical lead canonical's isv partners , has been company since 2007. of work time devoted management of both partner repository , "for purchase" section of software center. in addition active in georgia loco organized natty release party in atlanta. can see brian's work in weekly column omg! ubuntu called "download of week."

michigan loco sponsorship of mug

recently, ubuntu michigan loco took on michigan!/usr/group (mug) night. recently, mug started sponsorship program targeted @ companies. company can choose sponsor meeting $150 sponsorship recognized , of employees full members year. michigan loco put out call raise funds sponsor meeting , blasted past $150 amount , ended donating $185 mug. there 6 awesome talks amazing members of loco team. there videos of event posted later.

loco team directory translation updates

loco team portal team working on finalizing updates loco team directory push out new release in next week. there have been many changes translation strings loco team directory. team appreciate if translators take , update translation strings need updated prior then. there secondary release few days or week after initial release if there enough translations done after warrant update. there changes coming cycle loco team directory create fair amount of new strings need translated. please file bugs on strings worded differently make translations easier.

san francisco ubuntu hour , bay area debian dinners in june landed on wednesday 8th, world ipv6 day. there 7 people @ 6pm ubuntu hour @ roastery on new montgomery. conversation included how ubuntu syncs packages debian, exciting work of new dex team , various ubuntu tidbits. debian dinner began @ 7pm on @ henry’s hunan restaurant on natoma street, across alley roastery. biggest dinner since november, bringing in 10 people, including 2 debian developers (thanks again coming devin , jonathan!).

visualizing ubuntu differences against debian

on past few months, launchpad's red squad have been working make easier create , manage derivative distributions in launchpad. have released beta of new feature lets visualize differences between ubuntu's oneiric series , debian sid. there new portlet on distroseries page list numbers of packages in both distributions, numbers in sid , numbers in oneiric. clicking on links takes pages show differences in more detail , allows request debdiffs , add comments on packages. bugs on feature tracked using 'derivation' bug tag. note not meant replacement mom – yet.

using visibility rudimentary javascript templating

when designing pages work with-and-without javascript enabled, you’ll tempted repeat of user-interface text in template , in javascript file. text appears of time. 1 alternative render text time, , show of time. in launchpad, add "unseen" class text in order hide it. in yui3, it’s easy add or remove classes using node.toggleclass(). adds 'unseen' class foo when baz true, , removes when baz false. if page needs have more 1 instance of text, approach doesn't directly apply. however, it’s easy imagine extending using hidden copy prototype , copying needed.

in article colin watson officially announces availability of hybrid iso installer images. these hybrid iso's can burned cd normal, or, can copied directly usb device without need external solution. starting on june 16th of amd64 , i386 cd images on cdimage.ubuntu.com available hybrid images.
