Thread: Using Ubuntu 11.04 to backup user data from MacOS hard drive

a new client has given me macbook pro laptop has crashed due major update failing (user interupted , system won't boot). i've tried standard remedies such using disk utility check errors, verify drive, verify permissions, repair permissions, system still hangs @ startup screen apple logo.

backup users files hard drive , use install discs format drive , install scratch.

able boot ubuntu 11.04 on macbook last night absolutely no problems , can navigate drive fine, i'm running file permission issues , need someway change ownership of files or @ least gain read-only access can copy stuff external hard drive.

idea how this?

a quick google 'ubuntu mac hfs permission problem' yields this,

if want write access have disable journalling on hfs.
