Modify Site Using Administration Or Hacking Files? - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

hi again! here comes noobie type question.

i designing website , basing off joomla! template. know need change lot of things in template suit own needs. question is.. how know items can change using administration web page , items have changed hacking (text editing) .php/.css/etc. files?

when modifying template wanted change header image , way knew how manually edit .css file controls header image.

i want change home page "title" (the large text shows across header site name) , read somewhere can change using administrator page , should not "hack" template files themselves.

there no clear demarcation. however, rule of thumb, assume:

- of time, concerns , feel of site (e.g., color, positioning) require change in css

- of time, content , text handled in back-end administration

these rules apply designed template. there exceptions.
