How to assemble Illustrator graphics?

i wish compile individual comic strips drawing in illustroator multipage comic book. indesign way sophisticated , expensive me this.

 

i export e.g. gif , compile in microsoft word loses link original illustrator file (so hassle when need correct original file).

 

can suggest better way or indesign alternative works on mac?

there nothing wrong in creating multipage whatever illy.

 

depending on version, may use different artboards, or different layers different pages. latter offers simplicity of placing artwork in same position(s).

 

regardless of version, can create multipage pdf, if have acrobat. in oldest versions, can start first page pdf, add pages, each saved layer single page pdf. newer versions may done more easily.
