Thread: Bugged on using Ubuntu

please don't mind mistakes in writing english, because i'm not native english speaker, because looking in forums in language bugs in kubuntu , did not find solutions. , please don't mind, if post critizsm in ways.

i've been using ubuntu 2 years , use it, because it's open , opportunities massive. because of bitter-real joke of unity desktop , after giving failed try, i've switched kubuntu. many problems had under ubuntu, have on kubuntu, of course.

i've got problems in daily routine, "normal" things have work, don't. of course, ubuntu able more windows, opinion modern os have solve "normal" issues without using google everytime , switching command prompt, customize config files in many cases solving problem. well, after fresh installation works yet, if comes hardware support, special applications, etc. ubuntu fails in many cases, can reproduce on various systems have. opionion is, ubuntu developers should work more on hardware support , reliability working on **** (yes, s-h-i-t!) unity or other newer or "cooler" uis.

problems , hope can me, mistake is:
laptop, acer extensa 5635zg
intel pentium dual core 2x2,3 ghz
2gb ram
nvidia geforce g105m 512mb vram

1. problems wifi
well, i've connected access point , works. if shut down laptop or lose connection because of distance, i'm not able reconnect again. first, kubuntu not reconnect automatically, set in settings. second, if click on connection, nothing happens. not after hour.
solution clear config , reboot whole system, everytime.


2. problems delivered graphics driver , offical graphics driver.
graphics errors delivered graphics driver. area rendering fails, means "colorful pixel wars" on white background. mostely issue happens on windows (not windows ).
, official nvidia-current-driver, screen freezing after e.g. 30 minutes. everytime , in idle mode.

beamer configuration. if want presentation , want press second-screen-button on keyboard, nothing appens, while on windows screen switched beamer without issue.

4. vpn
need use cisco-compatible vpn client being able go web inside university's network. i've installed vpnc , works command prompt without issue.
under gnome there gnome-plugin vpnc , worked. under kde-plugin (which use kubuntu) vpn not work. can connect vpn server if click on disconnect-icon, whole kde freezing. restarting x not help. rebooting does.

printer. today i've bought canon pixma ip3600 , nothing works. plugged in printer, installation did not start, did printers @ least under ubuntu. switched k-settings, installed printer clicking button new printer. detected well, if want print, nothing happens. test page not printed, too.
ok, removed printer , downloaded driver canon. there several .deb files , tried find root package, dependencies installed. dependencies of root package ok, @ end of root .deb-package installation said, library of cups missing (fresh kubuntu , updated installation). tried find via package manager, not exist. i'm fed up.

feel pain man. i'm having similar issues on setup, vaio's cpu seems run extremely hot , fan speed control bonked up, plus canon pixma ip3600 refuses work in 11.04 while worked fine in 10.10. believe canonical should put best effort on providing - perfect - hardware support consumer electronics.

heck, pay such service if meant go buy device or laptop , work instantly ubuntu. i'm sooo jealous of macintosh's support in sense.

know canonical far apple, yet see them valid alternative alongside apple , microsoft, yet seem loose in making os "look good" instead of offering basic functionality. own opinion out of current experience.

truth if choose go linux choosing "diy" - way, , hence, being in linux world force try figure out how solve problems on own through google searches , going through gazillion blogs other linux users. , honest, it, despite of frustrations.

result of i'll make decisions on next purchases based upon support hardware builders offer towards linux. means me: no more sony , no more canon me, instead i'm betting on hp/lenovo , hp/epson.
