Thread: Portal 2: low resolution, choppy sound

hello,

facing problems portal 2 in wine.

after start playing game, sound cuts out altogether (after 3-5 seconds of play starting). not able play smoothly @ higher resolutions (eg, can play @ 9xx x 5xx widescreen 16:9 resolution).

system specs: pentium dual core 1.6ghz / 2gb ram / "01:00.0 vga compatible controller: nvidia corporation g72 [geforce 7300 se/7200 gs] (rev a1)" / proprietary drivers 260.19.06 / intel hidef onboard audio.

installed off dvd, , went smoothly. tried play above problems. used winetricks install d3dx9_36, directmusic , directsound.

sound/music stays throughout game, choppy. game continues "laggy" @ higher resolutions. multicore rendering active.

system no speed demon, should able handle ease.

have installed in it's own wineprefix, since did not want mess existing settings; it's virgin install it's going get.

maybe need install other components? should install entire directx9 (winetricks says "overkill").

tips , pointers appreciated.

tech level: intermediate-high.

i know may late reply might people in future yea.
okay, assuming have game started , running. , have sound menu correct? reason sound cuts out sound driver. need change alsa sound driver. use winetricks. select change settings select "sound=alsa". should fix audio. in start of game though around when first see glados again audio cuts out again. set subtitles on , past part , save. restart game. should have smooth audio rest of game. low resolution part not know tell you. although advanced game might system. have nvidia gt 240 , over-clocked amd phenom ii cpu running around 4 ghz , still have bad framerates once in while. wine great not perfect. found way stop stupid flashing mouse lot of people have forget did exactly, trying remember...i reply if figure out did. oh, using wine 1.3.28.
