Thread: Security for user profile
hi,
i've been using ubuntu more year , i've quite enjoyed , have become fond of winxp games. still i'm user , not savvy on workings of ubuntu.
suggested friend use ubuntu our internet cafe os, not introduce our customers beauty of linux , ubuntu cut our license cost zero.
go developing our i-cafe time manager in java , have run in ubuntu.
the challenge:
(well not many people here.)
secure client side application users not able stop executing , tampering upon user01 login.
client application should run users group not admin/sudoers group.
the user pc station setup:
ubuntu 10.04 lts, admin , user login account.
admin login password, user01 login without password.
admin has sudo powers, user01 has been setup desktop user limited accces per users setting in ubuntu system > administration > users , groups options.
what have done far:
put program in
system > preferences > startup application
program in folder admin has access user can execute, view , run not delete (used chmod 755 admin).
using gconf-editor have removed access panel, removed applications on menu systems menu , disable alt+f2.
normal i-cafe users should enough, other 20% of our customers curious, internet , computer savvy , motivated have unlimited time use, quite weak. know people here might laugh , flame noobness i've mentioned not familiar inner workings , security of ubuntu, happy users.
what think can not sure how:
put password gconf-editor
put password startup application option
run thru admin on user01 login (we clueless this).
use daemon thing have no idea , head went recycle bin when try read it.
if ubuntu gurus , users can point in right direction we'd appreciate help.
we'd simple solution this.
thanks.![]()
you copy user's home directory , refresh master copy every reboot using rsync. option --delete removes files in copy not present in master.
