Thread: unattended install with PXE server and kickstart

hi,

able setup unattended installations of ubuntu using pxe server , kickstart create virtualbox machines. have read , followed post (by far complete) https://help.ubuntu.com/community/pxeinstallserver.

problem although ubuntu runs through installation process, created is, pretty useless . useless because not boot. using minimal kickstart script post above results in non booting system.

install  url --url http://192.168.0.1/ubuntu/

there no grub menu or message see purple loader page flash on screen few ms.

if mount created hd second drive working machine , @ contents there appears system installed , can boot in safe mode messing around, nothing else. believe problem way installer using kickstart script , failing configure, grub, , or boot / root partitions. e.g. none of partitions aligned cylinder boundaries.

• i already, have working pxe server can use kickstart scripts install fedora virtualbox guests. works treat
• i can hand install ubuntu 11.04 guest on virtualbox.
• i have tried using kickstart script ubuntu package system-config-kickstart.

there number of "other" posts have read. of them old, incomplete or still work in progress. official documentation no better.

assuming possible ubuntu desktop , server being pushed solution business. cannot see how possible without unattended installs.
