Variables in an action to use in script

i want duplicate image, change duplicated image name original image name text @ end make different.

example.

original.. image123

duplicate... image123bw. or image123bg. etc.

so not have have separate script each different text addition wondered if can have variable in action can passed script add new document name?

one crude approach might have action create layer of specific name , have script evaluate activelayer’s name.
