Centre a pattern within a shape

hey guys,

 

so i'm missing basic, when create pattern using new pattern maker , apply rectangle, how can make sure pattern centred?  example have chevron pattern want fill rectangle, want make sure chevron pattern dead centre - have messed around ages , cant figure out.

drag pattern swatch artboard , if necessary expand , group pattern.

 

then place shaped path on grouped pattern

 

select group , shaped path , use alignment feature align tot center vertically , horizontally.

 

while still select make clipping path or fill shape white or black fille , make opacity mask , depeending on fill chose either clip , invvert of not invert , clip.

 

now have shaped pth filled pattern , centered , patter not move when move shape , stay centered unless unlink shape , grouoed art made pattern.
