Thread: Kernel dropping packets in IPTraf

hi there,

wondering if has used iptraf in heavily used fastethernet interfaces.

using iptraf log traffic details (protocol, ip addresses , packet size) of interface. surprise file analysis revealed large chunks of data missing results compared of other tools (mrtg, rrdtool , tcpdump raw files).

has come across problem before? iptraf allow store "raw" files tcpdump does? prevented kernel dropping packets number of reasons stick iptraf instead.

thanks!

daniel

tcpdump can't keep packets packet "dropped kernel'' number
of packets dropped, due lack of buffer space, packet capture mechanism in
os on tcpdump running, if os reports information applications
if not,it wil reported 0......also check firewall....
