My wishlist for Lightroom 4.x

i have overall i'm satisfied lr. has wishlist, , here's mine: it's filtered "what's doable in reasonable time" (i'm developer myself, have idea…) , sorted most-important first.

disclaimer: know, couple of these things can (partially) done 3rd-party plugins, think should handled lr itself.

1) exif editor/selector

i'm thinking in particular of lens information: on years accumulated lots of multiple tags, periodically fix manipulating catalog sqlite. remember case found 4 different tags same lens, (say) "dt 16-50 f2", "dt 16-50 f2.0", "16-50 f2.0", "16-50 f/2.0" etc.

i'd fix these safely , inside lr.

even better able pick arbitrary exif tags images , import in lr.

2) low-priority exports

i have publish service exports jpeg on hard drive. when run on laptop, makes computer melt.

frankly, don't remember lr2 or lr3 cpu-hungry, i'd guess code multicore-optimized, should take less time overall (i hope, i'm not sure); opposite of i'd wish… want run low-low-low priority task using 10% of cpu, , don't care if lasts night.

note decreasing priority of threads os may not sufficient, because if noting else running, anyway 100% of cpu time.

a suboptimal workaround be: add pause button running tasks.

3) zoom number in book module

when place image in template in book module, can select zoom level mouse, cannot enter number keyboard. it's not user friendly…

4) search developer preset (reliably) , notify of missing files

lr tends ignore silently files not present on drive.

for example, installed custom lens profile fisheye lens, , created developer preset called "apply fisheye correction". reason, lr thinks never used it.

even worse, if move lens profile file somewhere else , open photo uses it, fine, except image not corrected. no warning whatsoever.

similarly camera profiles (i think missing camera profile automatically falls adobe standard).

what i'd filter says: "find images depend on (developer preset)/(camera profiles)/(lens profiles)/(icc color profiles)".

5) automatic creation of snapshots virtual copies

when export sidecar .xmp, information virtual copies lost: if lr saved snapshot original , 1 every virtual copy, do.

6) import/export entire develop history from/to .xmp

i keep in sync 2 lightroom catalogs on 2 different machines using .xmp

in general it's not problem, because final state matters, , if care intermediate step, can save snapshot.

you mean 5.x or later. feature sets (with few exceptions) locked down in advance.

adobe has official feature request site lr here other users can add voices request. more traction there: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/products/photoshop_family_photoshop_lightro om
