Thread: Where are the Virtual Terminals?

how enable virtual terminals? whenever press ctrl+alt+f1 through f8, see blank screen, except on ctrl+alt+f7, has graphical session. after digging through internet, learned sys v init daemon uses /etc/inittab configure them, , new upstart init daemon uses /etc/event.d/ (at least on fedora; link here).

however, can't find inittab (as expected) or event.d (surprisingly). what's going on? more importantly, how configure virtual terminals start every boot-up?

i'm running ubuntu 11.04, natty narwhal, on intel atom duel core (net-top).
